MONROE – George “Irwin” Ireland, 88, went home to be with the Lord early Sunday morning, Oct. 22, 2006. He was born April 26, 1918, in Lincoln, the son of George and Vera (Farrington) Ireland. George was a veteran of World War II and then went on to work for Canteen Service, Bangor, for 25 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and tinkering in his workshop. George was also very fond of his two dogs, Coco and Lady. He was predeceased by his parents; and three children, Scott Ireland, Verna Ireland and Philip Ireland and sisters and brothers. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Harriet “Betty” Ireland; and his children, Marilyn Hamilton of Holy Hill, Fla., Bruce Ireland of Brewer, Gary Ireland of Cromwell, Conn., Brian Ireland and wife, Olga, of Old Town, Peter Ireland of Hampden, Mary Hickey and husband, David, of Bennington, Vt., Stephen Ireland of Brewer, Deborah Clark and husband, Brent, of Swanville, Esther Ireland of Howland, Sandra Peeler and huband, John, of Morrill, Colleen VanEvera and husband, Tim, of Boyertown, Pa., Deborah Farrell of New Hampshire; his siblings, Alicia Goode, Lorna Young and Esmond Ireland; 25 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with a funeral service 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Faith Temple Church of God, Belfast.
