INDIAN ISLAND – Henry E. Scribner, 70, died peacefully Sept. 19, 2004, at a Bangor hospital following a long illness. He was born Aug. 12, 1934, in Ellsworth, a son of Jay Butler and Dorothy May (Ward) Scribner. Henry was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the U.S. Army. Henry married the former Rose Marie Mason of Gardiner and together raise five children. He retired from the University of Maine Facilities Management in 1995 after years of service. His passion was in coaching baseball, basketball, and football in Connecticut and in Maine. He volunteered his time tirelessly to many civic organizations. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rose of Indian Island; two sons, Randall L. Scribner of Florida, Dr. Todd Ketchum of Atenas, Costa Rica; two daughters, Dawn Marie Coley of Connecticut and Debra Marie Francis of Indian Island; a brother, Dr. Jay Donald Scribner of Texas; aunts, Mrs. Bernice Pierce and Mrs. Clara Damon; and a cousin, Robert Damon; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Shawn Scribner. A celebration of his life will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., with the Rev.
