CARIBOU – Jean K. Nelson, 62, died Sept. 26, 2004, at Van Buren. She was born at Caribou, Nov. 26, 1941, the daughter of James Kenneth and Bertha E. (Paradis) Blackstone. She was a graduate of the Caribou High School, Class of 1959 and also graduated from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. She was employed at AMHC and operated the Second Harvest Thrift Shop. Jean also operated the Peter Pan Nursery School in Norway and Frenchville. She was an active member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, where she was also a member of the Methodist Women’s Group. She was a member of the Aroostook County United Methodist Cluster Council for many years. Jean was a Lay Speaker and would give sermons at local area churches. She was a member of the Democratic Town Committee in Norway and Fort Kent and was also a member of the Caribou Garden Club. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sherron Nelson of Plainville, Conn. and Charles Nelson of Fredericksburg, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kerri and Robert McClafferty of Fredericksburg, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Jim (Marjorie) Shelton of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mrs. Dick (Claudia) McClane of Florida, Mrs. George (Marie) Archibald of Risingsun, Ohio, Mrs. Everett (Norma) Milton of Madawaska Lake and Mrs. Terry (Carol) Parks of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren, AJ, Krystal and Heather Nelson; several nieces and nephews. Jean will be sadly missed by many special friends that were there for her during her illness so she was able to stay at her home. Friends may visit with the family from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tom Blackstone, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Jean may do so through the American Cancer Society. Envelopes may be obtained through the funeral home.
