ESSEX, Conn., and OLD LYME, Conn. – John E. Selicious, 78, died Sept. 3, 2007, at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, New London, Conn. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Patricia for 50 years. He was born in Middle-town, Conn., son of the late Emanuel and Kaliope (Gergulis). John was raised in Old Lyme, Conn., and resided there for 30 years. As a young man, he started in his family business, The Towne House Restaurant, Old Saybrook, Conn. He went on to own several businesses throughout the years, Turnpike Motors, Old Saybrook, Conn.; Dean Auto Salvage, New London, Conn.; Essex Auto Salvage, Essex, Conn.; Pizza Man, Old Lyme, Conn.; and for 16 years he and Pat ran the Guilford B&B, Guilford. John was a 56-year member of Pythagoras Lodge AF & AM No. 45, Old Lyme, Conn.; past volunteer with the Old Lyme Fire Department; Auxiliary Police, Westbrook, Conn.; and a member of the Young Republican Club, Old Lyme, Conn. In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Stephen P. of Pikeville, Ky., and his former daughter-in-law, Heidilore, of Oxford, Miss., Robin L. of Essex, Conn., Christopher J. and his wife, Gila Ivy, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Pop’s special girl, his granddaughter, Calla Grace; his cousins, John and Lella Pappas of New Haven; godchildren, David Dill Saunders of Old Saybrook, Conn., and Michael Tramis of New York City. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, Conn. Interment will be at Duck River Cemetery, Old Lyme, Conn.
