LUBEC – Josephine A. Archer, 66, passed away Aug. 30, 2006, at her residence, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born June 2, 1940, the only child of Wellington C. Huntley and Christine (Leighton) Huntley. She grew up on Monument Street, next door to the Olson children who became her second family. And although she loved them all, it was Mary Anna Olson who became the sister she never had and they maintained this close relationship their entire lives. On July 20, 1968, she married Bruce L. Archer and became a military wife. Throughout his career they traveled extensively, but it was always her dream to return to Lubec and upon his retirement, her dream came true when they returned to build a home in “Bailey’s Mistake.” She was an avid gardener and surrounded her home with beautiful flowers. She loved living beside the ocean where she could watch the changing face of the bay, the beautiful sunsets, and enjoy the many wild birds and animals that came to her home each day for food. She was blessed with many friends who came often on weekends to gather for music, food, and story telling. She was a member of the Quoddy Light Chapter No. 94, OES and was a present member of Pennamaquan Chapter No.146, OES. She was predeceased by her parents, Wellington Huntley and Christine Huntley. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Bruce L. Archer of Lubec; a daughter, Julie Keene and Adam Boutin of Trescott; a son, Dusty Keene and Mildred Johnson of Lubec; three grandchildren, Aimsley Shaw, Joseph Keene and Christine Keene, all of Lubec; and her mother-in-law, Thelma Erquhart of Machias. The family is especially thankful for the many caring friends who have provided support and consolation during this long illness. In particular, the professional and loving care provided by Paula Sawtelle allowed Josephine to spend her remaining weeks at home. Services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at the Lubec Congregational Church. A graveside committal will be held immediately after the church service at Greenfield – Coreys Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a reception at her home immediately after services. Arrangements will be provided by McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
