BANGOR and BREWER – Leigh A. Blanchard, 66, died Dec. 5, 2005, at a Brewer healthcare facility after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 15, 1939, in Brunswick, the son of Harland and Arlene (Small) Blanchard. Leigh worked as a maintenance supervisor at Assembly Square Mall in Somerville, Mass. for 19 years. He worked in maintenance at K-Mart in Bangor for several years and as a crossing guard in Brewer for several years. Leigh was a member of Rising Virtue Lodge No. 10 AF & AM of Bangor, Mount Moriah Chapter No. 6, Bangor Council No. 5, St. John’s Commandary No. 3, York Rite College No. 187, Tuscon Chapter No. 148 OES of Bangor and was a former member of the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Bangor and Maine Consistory 32 degree. He was an active sportsman and enjoyed bicycle riding, walking, woodworking and reading. Leigh coached American Legion Baseball for a number of years. Leigh was an avid sports fan of Maine hockey, Maine basketball and National Sports Teams. Leigh is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Constance “Connie” A. (Fernald) Blanchard of Bangor; daughters, Louise Sainato and husband, Thomas “Tommy”, of Wilmington, Mass., Brenda Silva and husband, Agostinho, of Somerville, Mass., Lisa Fernandes and husband, Rommell, of Lake Wales, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Charlotte D. Small and husband, Stillman, of Galatin, Tenn. and Theresa Keifer of Fort Meade, Fla.; grandchildren, Rachael, Melanie, Justin, Marissa and Andrew; stepgrandchildren, Teresa, Steven, Tyler, Jillian and James. He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Jennie (Rizzo) Blanchard. Friends are invited to visit with the family 5-8 p.m. Friday, Dec 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec 10, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of Chaplaincy Services at EMMC, officiating. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted 7 p.m. Friday, by the officers and members of Rising Virtue Lodge, relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., following the service.
