CARIBOU – Margaret P. Bailey, 98, well known area musician and piano teacher, died Jan. 3, 2006, at a Caribou hospital after a brief illness. She was born, Dec. 18, 1907, in Caribou, the daughter of Albert W. and Minnie (Wottrich) Bailey. A graduate of Caribou schools, Margaret displayed an aptitude for music at a very young age and after graduating Caribou High School she attended and graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, majoring in piano and violin. After her education she returned to the county, where she taught both piano and violin along with playing and accompanying for various shows and events. She always believed that dedicated practice along with motivation were the keys to success as a musician. Margaret taught for more than 50 years and many of her students can still be found school music teachers, church music directors, organists and performers in local musicals and variety shows. She was a lifelong member for the Caribou United Baptist Church. She is survived by two nephews, Sam Bailey and his wife, Marilyn, of Caribou, Gary Bailey and his wife, Rena, of Madawaska; and by two nieces, Betty Hanley of Florida and Claudine McClure of California. She will be remembered by many friends and neighbors including very special friends, Don and Avrill Belyea and Dorothy Saucier, all of Caribou. She was predeceased by five brothers and sisters, Parker Bailey, Athill Bailey, Maude Thaw, Ida Bradbury, George Bailey. She was also predeceased by a special nephew, Milton Bailey. Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou, with the Rev. Keith Cushman, officiating. Calling hours will be held noon until time of service. Spring interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou.
