LEE – Maude S. Cobb, 85, wife of Floyd Cobb, died Jan. 14, 2007, with her family at her side at a Tampa, Fla., hospital. She was born July 19, 1921, in Topsfield, the daughter of Harry Nelson “Toddie” Scribner and Flossie (Perkins) Scribner. Maudie graduated valedictorian from Lee Academy in 1938 and received her teaching degree from Machias Normal School. She taught for eight years in Lee at the green schoolhouse. She was a member of Thurlow-Cushman American Legion Auxiliary and the Lee Historical Society. Maudie was one of many who were instrumental in the saving and restoration of Mallett Hall. She and Floyd worked side by side operating Cobb’s Pierce Pond Camps from 1958 to 1983, and was a member of the Maine Wilderness Watershed Trust. Maudie was affectionately named “Bunda” by her grandchildren, and was known by that name to many others. In addition to her husband of 67 years, Floyd, she is survived by three children, Gary and his wife, Betty, Judy Mallett and her fiance, Jack Bailey, all of North New Portland and Jeannie and her husband, John Merchant, of Mount Desert Island; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hering, Andy Cobb, Katherine Mallett, Kristen Cowan, Hayley Merchant and Justin Merchant; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Cowan, Nickolas Cowan, Grace Cowan, Ava Twombly and Lyle Hering; two brothers and their wives, Claude and Charlene Scribner and Roland and Joan Scribner, all of Lee; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Scribner of Brewer; a brother-in-law, Merrill Cobb and his wife, Wilma, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews, several special cousins; and Avis Noyes, her life long best friend. She was predeceased by a brother, Dick Scribner; and a half sister, Arlene “Jackie” Kapps. A celebration of her life will be held 2 p.m. Jan. 27, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Woodlawn Cemetery. Maudie was passionate about her experience at Lee Academy. She loved her school, she loved learning, and throughout her life remained a loyal advocate. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate in her memory to the Maude S.
