GRANADA HILLS, Calif. – Nerita Nason Grant passed away March 16, 2004, in Granada Hills, Calif. Nerita was born Feb. 18, 1935, the daughter of Mary Joslyn and John Byron Nason of Monticello. Nerita graduated from Ricker Classical Institute, Houlton, in 1953, and after a year at Ricker College she acquired her cytopathology technical certification from the Pratt Diagnostic Center, Boston, Mass., in 1956. After interning for short periods at Lewiston and Caribou Hospitals, she managed the cytology laboratory at the Houlton Aroostook General Hospital in 1956-1957. In 1957, she married John M. Grant, her beloved and adoring husband of 47 years, at the Congregational Methodist Church in Houlton. They subsequently relocated to California, where she practiced her medical skills and raised their family. Nerita was extremely active in charitable and community organizations, among which are the American Heart Association, March of Dimes, the Granada Hills Women’s Club, Northridge Newcomers, the Granada Hills Little League, and the Knollwood and Kennedy Schools’ PTAs. She will be remembered for her spontaneous humor and good nature, open friendliness and energetic social abilities and her love of music, and most of all, her love and devotion to friends and family. She will be deeply missed and remembered with fondness and unsurpassed love by all. She leaves behind her husband, John; a brother and sister-in-law, Susan and Frederick Nason of Agoura Hills, Calif.; a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Sameh Khurma of Amman, Jordan; four sons and daughters-in-law, Shannon and John Wendell Grant of Bellflower, Calif., Julia and Robert Bruce Grant of Agoura Hills, Calif., Tracy and David Samuel Grant of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Laura and Daniel Burton Grant of Calabasas, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Trevor, Spencer, Harrison, Jackson, John, Madison, Megan and Katherine; and a large extended family of aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews, with whom she maintained loving contact. Nerita may be visited 5 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Catholic Mortuary, 11160 Stranwood Ave., Granada Hills, Calif. (corner of Sepulveda and Rinaldi). A memorial service will be held 11-12 p.m. March 27, 2004, at the Northridge United Methodist Church, 9650 Reseda Blvd., Northridge, Calif. A reception at the church will follow the services.
