BANGOR and BREWER – Orman E. Pettengill, 90, died Dec. 14, 2003, lovingly cared for by the staff at his residence, the Bradford Home. He was born July 27, 1913, in Enfield, the son of Everett and Mary (McGowell) Pettengill. Orman was a graduate of Brewer High School, and a member of the track team. He played cornet in the Brewer High School band. Orman graduated from Waltham Watchmaking School, Waltham, Mass. He was the owner and operator of Petengill’s Jewelry store. In his retirement he continued to do watch repair at his home. Orman was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church of Brewer, where he was a member of the choir. Orman was a talented musician. He played cornet, violin, pipe organ, organ, and piano. He was also a band member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve. He was also a member of St. Andrews Lodge No. 83, AF & AM, York Rites, Scottish Rites Bodies, and Anah Shriners, all of Bangor, Chanters of Anah Shrine, former member of Odd Fellows of Brewer, Brewer Grange, Past Patron of OES, Tuscan Chapter 148 of Bangor. Orman is survived by two sisters-in-law, Helma L. Enman of Bangor and Barbara Coop of Arkansas; a nephew, David Doucette of Augusta; many other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Ethel (Looke) Pettengill; one brother, Woodrow Pettengill; and one sister, Leona West. The family wishes to extend much appreciation and gratitude to all of those who assisted in the health and well being of Orman. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Roger Davis, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, 61 State St., Brewer, officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until time of service. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments following the service to the Brookings-Smith Family Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
