ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Rebecca A. (Backman) Graves, 94, formerly of Quincy, Mass., passed away Jan. 25, 2008, at Life Care Center of Attleboro, Mass. She was born and raised in Beals Island, the daughter of the late Herman and R. Estelle (Church) Backman. Rebecca came to Quincy, Mass., in 1944, where she lived before moving to the Life Care Center. She was a 50-year member of Wollaston Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star No. 156, White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 2 of Braintree, Mass. She was also a member of the former Atlantic Memorial Congregational Church, Betsy Ross Group at the church and Wollaston Congregational Church. Rebecca worked as a seamstress for more than 25 years with Linwood’s Fabric House, Weymouth, Mass. She was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Harleigh A. Alley in 1942 and Henry T. Graves in 1961. Rebecca is the loving mother of Dorothy Alley Abbott and her husband, William, of Naples, Fla., and the late Gloria Marie Alley; devoted grandmother of Joyce Finn-Manzi and her husband, Stephen, of Hudson, N.H., David Abbott and his wife, Susan, of Braintree, Mass., and Linda Abbott-Bennett and her husband, Douglas, of Plainville, Mass.; great-grandmother of Michael, Bethany and Matthew Finn, Brittany, David William and Gregory Abbott, Adam and Rebecca Bennett; great-great-grandmother of Colby Adam; and is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 11 brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held at a later date in the spring. Visiting hours have been omitted.
