ATHENS, Ala. – Reta Adelaide (Reed) Fernald, 96, formerly of Islesford, wife of the late Winfred F. Fernald, passed away peacefully Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, at Athens Convelescent Home. She was born Aug. 4, 1910, in Bar Harbor, the daughter of the late Gardner and Gertrude (Stover) Reed. Reta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. Survivors include her son, Dennis L. Fernald and wife, Donna, of Harrison, Tenn.; granddaughter, Lisa Y. Fernald of Madison; and great-grandson, Christian Fernald of Madison; brother, Gardner Reed; three sisters, Mildred Crane, Margaret Black-Connor and Geraldine Henkener, all of Maine and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be 3:30-4 p.m. Thursday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. with Leroy Landers officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at a cemetery in Islesford.
