ROBERT E. LEIGHTON STETSON – Robert E. Leighton, 59, died Oct. 4, 2003, at a Bangor hospital following a short illness. He was born in Stetson Feb. 21, 1944, the son of Donald and Evelyn (Savage) Leighton. Robert was educated in schools in Stetson and Corinna. All of his life Robert was employed as a dairy farmer and woodsman on the family farm in Stetson. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt. He is survived by three brothers, Charles E. Leighton, Richard O. Leighton and Clyde M. Leighton, all of Stetson; three sisters, Charlene Leighton of St. Albans, Rose Marie Tenny of Dexter, and Rebecca Leen of Dover-Foxcroft. He will also be remembered by a special friend, Barbara Bemis, and her four daughters; and the grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Papa.” Friends may call Monday 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport. Graveside funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2003, at the Clarks Hill Cemetery in Stetson, with Pastor George C. Perkins Jr. officiating.
