BANGOR – Willard F. Swan, 90, died Dec. 10, 2003, at the Maine Veterans Home. He was born March 27, 1913, in Hampden, the son of John and Delma (Felker) Swan. Willard graduated from Hermon High School, served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic in the South Pacific, was a member of Columbia Street Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years and was awarded Deacon Emeritus, was a member of St. Andrew’s Lodge No. 83, Scottish Rite Bodies, and Anah Shriners, all of Bangor, and a life-time member of the Odd Fellows of Hermon. Willard was awarded the Unsung Hero Award for his bus driving. He is survived by his wife, Althea (Ware) Swan of Bangor; three children, John W. Swan of Standish, Carolyn and her husband, Rick Whipkey, of Katy, Texas, Robert G. Swan of Bangor; one granddaughter, Megan Colette of St. George, Utah. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Amanda Swan. Friends may call 4-6 p.m. Thursday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Peter Sprague, pastor of Columbia Street Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
