PITTSFIELD – William A. Murphy, 79, died April 25, 2005, at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born Aug. 13, 1925, at Hermon a son of William and Lillian (Hudson) Murphy Sr. He graduated from Hermon High School, Class of 1943. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving as a tank gunner in France during World War II. Sept. 22, 1945, he married Kathleen M. Wright. He retired from the Dexter Shoe Company in 1987, but continued to work part time as a janitor at Manson Park School. Bill was a member of Deeper Life Assembly. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Kay Murphy of Pittsfield; two sons, Richard of Florida, and Allen and wife, Mary Murphy, of Milo; two daughters, Sandra and husband, Henry Carron, of Pittsfield, Suzzanne Murphy of Florida; a brother, Dalbert Davis of Hampden; two sisters, Florence Getchell of Hampden, Effie Chesties of Portland; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Deeper Life Assembly, Pittsfield, with the Rev. Millard Dickinson officiating. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in the family lot, Pittsfield Village Cemetery. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, Newport.
