PHILENA E. ‘TINA’ SPENCER MACHIAS – Philena E. “Tina” Spencer, 85, loving wife, mother and grandmother went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Down East Community Hospital. She was born April 18, 1923 in Portland, the daughter of George and Florence Colbeth. As a young child she lived with her family in Portland, later returning with them to Bucks Harbor, the place she called home, where her favorite childhood memories were formed. In earlier years she worked as a waitress in a shipyard cafeteria and later in local factories and nursing homes. A proud achievement was earning her GED later on in life. Philena enjoyed going to church, picnics, the beach, especially Jasper Beach, family gatherings, outings and sharing stories. She will be remembered for her lovely smile, sense of humor and her kindness and generosity to those in need. She was predeceased by her parents; husbands, Herbert Harmon and Joseph Spencer; brother, Clifford; sisters, Helen and Alice; and sons-in-law, Charlie Eye and Harry Schors Sr. Surviving are a brother, Warren Colbeth; sisters, Georgia Day and Marion Voita and her husband, Walter, all of Bucks Harbor; sons, George Harmon and wife, Kathy, of East Machias and Gary Harmon of Machias; daughters, Marilyn Eye and friend, Phil Grant, of Machiasport, Jane Spencer and husband, Glenn, of Machias and Pamela Jones and husband, Scott, of Trescott; grandchildren, Timothy Eye, Sam Schors, Christopher Schors, Natalie Houde, Tracie Anderson, April Armstrong, Christina Lunn, Jason Spencer, Jamie Wright, Darcie Radley and Miranda Spencer; several great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, friends too numerous to mention; and special friends, Louise Proctor, Jeff Wilcox and Ashley Sprague. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Philena’s life and light refresh-ments 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at Larrabee Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a church or charity of your choice.
