MACHIAS – Lillian J. “Bunty” Gallant, 79, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. Lillian was born Oct. 31, 1929, in Eastport, daughter of the late Thomas and Irene (Pettigrove) Gallant. She graduated from Maine School of Practical Nursing in 1970. Lillian was employed by Maine Medical Center, Portland and worked on the surgical team that performed the first kidney transplant in the state of Maine. She returned to Machias and worked at Marshall Manor, Sunrise Workshop, Parlin Gardens and most recently enjoyed her work and friends at Bluebird Restaurant. Lillian was a member of Centre Street Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, Machias. She was greatly loved by the entire community. Lillian had many, many friends that will miss her. Lillian, known as “Bunty,” was always there to help anyone in need. Her kind heart and generous spirit will never be forgotten. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Sheila Gallant. Surviving are her daughter, Irene Seeley of North Carolina; her sister, Nanette Lowe and her husband, Paul, of Eastport; her brother, Ronald Gallant and his wife, Susan, of Salina, Kan.; two grandchildren, Michael Seeley, and Thomas Seeley and his wife, Tracy, all of North Carolina; a great-granddaughter, Jasmine; her extended family; dearest friend, Barbara Sawyer of Machias and her daughter, Ann, and their entire family; and special friend, Hope Prout and her family. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in Hillside Cemetery, Eastport. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais and Eastport.
