MATTAWAMKEAG – On Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, Nicque Moore, beloved wife of Jerry; dear mother of Meridith and Amy; and proud grandmother of Skylar, left this world, taking a part of their hearts with her. Nicque was born Shirley Nickerson, Dec. 2, 1925. She legally changed her name to Nicque when she was in her 70s. She was a free spirit and a true nonconformist, who marched to her own drummer. She was compassionate and kind to all, especially those in need. Nicque was generous to a fault and always put others needs before her own. She had the most wonderful sense of humor and took great pleasure out of the simplest things. Her husband, Jerry, was her best friend and constant companion, one was rarely seen without the other. She was fiercely proud of her two daughters, Meridith Watts of Boothbay Harbor and Amy Price of Rockwood, and took great delight in her only grandchild, Skylar Towle, also of Rockwood. Nicque was passionate about animals and made rescuing abandoned cats her mission in life. Her kitties were her pride and joy and she was devoted to them. They will miss her terribly. Nicque loved learning. She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Massachusetts College of Art, a master’s degree in guidance and education from the University of Rhode Island, and had worked toward her doctorate in theology. Nicque wore many hats in her lifetime. She had been an art teacher, a guidance counselor, bus driver, office manager, square dancer, music teacher, organist and many others too numerous to list. One of her greatest loves was music. She was a gifted musician accomplished in piano and organ. She often played at school and church functions, nursing homes and anywhere her services were needed. A week before she left us, she was looking for a venue with a piano where she could offer free lessons to any child who wanted them. Nicque was a very special lady and leaves behind many who loved her. She cared little for convention and had no patience for pretensions. Life will never be the same without her in it, but there is a new star in heaven, shinning brightly, and those left behind can take comfort from that. Goodbye Nicque, mom and grandee, you are loved beyond measure and will be sadly missed every day. At this time plans for a memorial service are incomplete. Nicque will be cremated and will be interred with her beloved Jerry for eternity, sometime in the sweet by and by. Arrangements are with Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. And I somehow believe he’s believing, he’s holding her hand like before. For he feels all her love walking with him, and he smiles at the things she might say, and the old man walks up to the hillside, and he gives her a daisy a day. I’ll give you a daisy a day dear, I’ll give you a daisy a day, I’ll love you until the rivers run still and the four winds we know blow away.
