CASWELL – James H. Cald-well, 84, husband of Tressa E. Caldwell, passed away Wednesday morning, Dec. 10, 2008, at a Caribou health care facility after an extended illness with his family by his side. A lifelong resident of Caswell, James was born July 13, 1924, the son of Robert H. and Hazel (Jensen) Caldwell. Mr. Caldwell attended Caswell schools and was a member of the former Caswell Methodist Church. He was married to Tressa E. Bubar, June 28, 1947, in Caribou, by the Rev. John Gorman. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater as an Infantryman with the 132nd Infantry Regiment, Americal Division, earning the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and several other awards and decorations. He was also a lifetime member of VFW Lister-Knowlton Post No. 9389, Caribou. James enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming and raising fish in the farm ponds. James lived his entire life on the farm in Caswell with his wife, Tressa and their children and enjoyed frequent visits from their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was self-employed as a potato farmer on the family farm in Caswell for many years and also worked on the former Loring Air Force Base, Civil Engineering Road and Grounds Section. James is survived by his loving and best friend of 61 years, Mrs. Tressa E. Caldwell of Caswell; two sons, John and Cliff Caldwell, both of Caswell; four daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and John Hotelling of Limestone, Judy Caldwell of Caswell, Sally and Bruce Woodward of Yuma, Ariz., Kathy Caldwell and Scott Leavitt of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Ellen Newman of Goldsboro, S.C.; 13 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his dog, Tigger. In addition to his parents, Mr. Caldwell was predeceased by two brothers, Burton and Andrew J. Caldwell. Friends may call 1-2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a service of remembrance will be conducted 1 p.m. by the officers and members of VFW Lister-Knowlton Post No. 9389, Caribou. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Amuzzini officiating. Spring interment with military honors will be held at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at Limestone Masonic Lodge No. 214, Main Street, Limestone, after the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Caldwell to the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 37 Lombard Road, Caribou, ME 04736. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
