WEST GARDINER – Nancy J. Atkins, 66, passed away Dec. 10, 2008, at Maine Medical Center, Portland. Nancy was born March 16, 1942, in Hollis Center. Nancy was highly regarded for her delicious baked goods, which she distributed to local stores and families through her home baking business, Nancy’s Home Cooking. Prior to this she was employed by Shop ‘n Save, Augusta and Fullers Market, West Gardiner. Her generosity towards others touched everyone she crossed paths with and she always put the needs of others ahead of her own. Delivering hot meals and providing hope and humor to her friends, even in her time of need, was a standard she lived by. She will be remembered for her total devotion to her children, grandchildren, her great-grandchild and friends, which brought her joy and fulfillment. Nancy is survived by her beloved husband of 25 years, Robert “Bob”; son, Darrell Stevens and wife, Courtenay; daughter, Rhonda Stevens Day and husband, Michael; daughter, Lori Ouellette and companion, John Bade; as well as seven grandchildren, Melissa, Ashlee, Kimberly, Courtney, Ian, Sarah and Sam; one great-grandson, Lucus; and a host of relatives and friends. A viewing will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, at Staples Funeral Home. A reception for friends and family will be held afterward at Gardiner American Legion, 46 Griffin St., Gardiner. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
