DANBURY, Conn., and VAN BUREN – Gilbert Laplante, 69, died Dec. 17, 2008, at his residence in Danbury, Conn. He was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Van Buren, the son of Jean and Alice (Madore) Laplante. He was educated in Van Buren schools and was employed as a roofer for most of his working life. Gilbert is survived by two brothers, Roger Laplante of Massachusetts and John Laplante Jr. and his wife, Rochelle, of Van Buren; and five sisters, Edna Violette, Marcella Levasseur, Alice Morrow and her husband, Albert, all of Van Buren, Jeanne D’Arc Reynolds and her husband, Patrick, of Hawaii and Claire Porter and her husband, Bill, of Arizona. In addition to his parents, Gilbert was predeceased by two brothers, Charlie and Wilfred Laplante; and by two sisters, Simone Soucy and Agnes Violette. There will be no visiting hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Spring interment will be in the parish cemetery.
