DOVER-FOXCROFT – Eugene “Red” F. Mountain, 84, husband of Eunice (Ames) Mountain, passed away June 22, 2009, surrounded by his family, after a brief stay at a local nursing home. He was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Eugene and Sadie (Moore) Mountain. In 1952, he and Eunice purchased Mountain’s Market, Dover-Foxcroft, which they operated for 35 years. During his life, he served on many boards, including selectman for the Town of Dover-Foxcroft for 12 years, chairman of Mayo Hospital Board of Directors, director of Border Trust Bank, and director of Associated Grocers. He was also a member of Piscataquis Development Corp. and Piscataquis Fair Association. He was a member of IOOF and a 32nd degree mason. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eunice of Dover-Foxcroft; two daughters, Julie Frizzell and her husband, Jeff, and Janet Colbry and her husband, Jerry, all of Dover-Foxcroft; two grandchildren, Dustin and Darren Colbry; and two sisters, Marie Gilbert of Dexter, and Donna Harkins of Florida. He was predeceased by two sisters, Paula Mountain and Priscilla Worden; and three brothers, Robert, Reginald and James Mountain. Services will be private.
