LITTLETON – James L. Westerdahl, 75, a prominent Littleton businessman, died Sept. 18, 2009, at a Bangor hospital, after a tragic accident, Sept. 16. He was born Dec. 11, 1933, in McKaysville, Ga., son of Carl and Dorothy Westerdahl. James moved to Aroostook County at age 17 with the Core Drills, then met and married his wife, Arthlene Hanning. They traveled with the Core Drills for several years before they settled in Littleton and raised their family. He began his own business, Westerdahl’s Garage in 1971 and a trucking company in Littleton, both of which are running today. James enjoyed singing and sang with many bands during the years. He and Arthlene sang at many different functions. After he retired due to ill health, they spent their winters in Florida and summers at Nickerson Lake. Jim was a member of Monument Lodge of Masons No. 96 AF & AM, Houlton. Jim was also a member of Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor. Jim leaves his wife of 58 years, Arthlene Westerdahl; his son, Barret Westerdahl and wife, Wendy; four grandchildren, Jayson Westerdahl of Littleton, Joshua Westerdahl and wife, Holly, of New Limerick, Kamden and James Westerdahl of Littleton; a daughter-in-law, Carol Westerdahl of New Limerick; two special cousins of Georgia; six nieces and nephews of Alabama. He also leaves his dog, Megan, whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his parents; son, James A., in 2006; a sister and brother-in-law. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Dunn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Littleton Baptist Church.
