JONESPORT – Ruth A. “Ruthie” Kelley, 84, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010, after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 9, 1925, in Jonesport, to Daniel and Ruth (Woodward) Dobbin. She attended schools in Jonesport and graduated from Deering High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Caswell “Cabby” Kelley in Jonesport and they relocated to Southern Maine, settling in Old Orchard Beach, where they raised three children. Ruthie worked at St. Francis College, Biddeford, for many years and later served as treasurer for the town of Old Orchard Beach. In 1977 she and Cabby retired back to their beloved Jonesport, where she was co-owner of the Double-K takeout. She then discovered she had a passion for golf and was a member of Great Cove Golf Course. Other hobbies included painting, word games, crossword puzzles and playing cards. Ruthie so loved time spent with her family and friends, most especially at Sandy River Beach. Ruthie was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Cabby, less than a year ago; by her mother and father; brothers, Ralph and Philmore Dobbin; and sister, Ada Knowles. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Parlin and husband, Roger, of Westbrook; sons, Dana Kelley and wife, Sherry, of Old Orchard Beach and Jay Kelley and wife, Tracy, of Saco; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many very dear friends. The family thanks the doctors and staff of Gibson Pavilion at Maine Medical Center, Portland, and all the special “angels” at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough, for their loving and attentive care during Ruthie’s last days. A celebration of Ruthie’s life will be held in the spring. Because of her great love for animals, donations in her memory may be made to Ark Animal Shelter, 60 Barber Lane, Cherryfield, ME 40622.
