SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Leonel “Leo” LeVasseur passed away April 10, 2010. Leo was born April 15, 1917, in Old Town. He attended Old Town schools. He joined the U.S. Army during World War II, was stationed in Italy and became a military police. When he married Lavern, they moved to California where he worked for Westinghouse for many years. A member of Church of God for 47 years, he was ordained a deacon in 1983. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 344, San Jose, Calif. Many organizations benefited from his volunteer work. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lavern (Stanley) of South Gouldsboro; sister, Jeanette and Bob Dunworth of Mountian View, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Venita (Russell) LeVasseur of Medford, Ore.; daughters, Jean (LeVassseur) Boyorak and John of Hampden, and Michelle Abell and Kurt of Medesto, Cailf.; son, Tom and Shirley of Redding, Calif.; grandchildren, Wilfred Jerome LeVasseur and Gail of Woodinville, Wash., Michael LeVasseur and Laura of Vancover, Wash., Mark Boyorak and Brenda of Winterport, Lauri Toothaker of Carmel, Sandra Dennison and Todd of Roberts, Wis., Yvette Dunwoody of Modesto, Calif., Thomas Dunwoody of Modesto, Calif., and Michael LeVasseur of Redding, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Wilfred Glenn LeVasseur of New York, Susan LeVasseur King and Kevin of Kent, Wash., Amy LeVasseur of Vancover, Wash., Anastacia LeVasseur of Bozeman, Mont., Colin LeVasseur, U.S. Navy, of Bangor Naval Station, Wash., David Boyorak and Shannan of Lee, John Boyorak, Robert Boyorak, both of Winterport, Charles III, Connie, Carl and Stephanie Toothaker, all of Carmel, Justin Rouse of North Carolina, and Hallie Dennison of Roberts, Wis.; great-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Victoria, and twins Isabella and Katerina Boyorak, all of Lee, Kyleigh Ane Kin of Kent, Wash., and Daniel James LeVasseur of Vancover, Wash.; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Avis Dunworth. He was predeceased by brothers, Thomas and Napoleon LeVasseur; sisters, Yvonne LeVasseur and Antoinette Dupree; sons, Wilfred Eugene LeVasseur of Medford, Ore., Doug and Rob of California; grandson-in-law, Charles Toothaker Jr. of Carmel; and great-grandson, Anthony Drawdy of Winterport. A graveside service with military honors will be held 2:30 p.m. May 1 at Alta Mesa Cemetery, Palo Alto, Calif.
