GREEN LAKE and BREWER – Harold W. Harding, 93, died July 5, 2010, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Oct. 12, 1916, in Etna, the son of Harry and June (Tribou) Harding. Harold was educated in Etna elementary schools, Carmel High School and Bangor School of Commerce – now Husson University. He married Evelyn Clukey of Sangerville, in 1938. Harold worked in the office of Hardwood Products Co., Guilford, for seven years, and then as a railway postal clerk of the U.S. Postal Office Department, and retired in 1972 as finance supervisor at Bangor Post Office. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. Harold was a great sports fan, and enjoyed the games of baseball and basketball, having played during his school years and with the Guilford Advertisers baseball team of the Eastern Maine League. He was very fond of the outdoors, fishing, hunting and especially of cottage life at Green Lake, where he and Evelyn spent a good part of their lives after World War II, during spring, summer and fall, and where they had a year-round home built in 1985, living there until 2007. For many years, while in the U.S. Postal Service, Harold served as president of the Bangor branch of National Organization of Railway Mail Clerks and succeeding organizations of mail clerks. He was a member of the Bangor branch of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Harold is survived by one brother, Glendon and wife, Marilee, of Holden; a cousin, Barbara Blanchard of Bradford; a special nephew, Frank Dawes and his wife, Karlyn, of Bangor and Sarasota, Fla.; a special niece, Nora Lovell and her husband, Mark, of Bangor; several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn. A special thanks to Sue and the nursing staff at St. Joseph Hospital for the wonderful care Harold received. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 7, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. Friends are welcome to call from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
