ELLSWORTH – Philip Henry Shea died Aug. 3, 2010, at his home with his family by his side. He was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Lamoine, the son of Emmons L. and Miriam (Cole) Shea. Phil attended school in Ellsworth and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1947. In 1953, he married Grace E. Sinclair of St. Albans. Phil worked at Bar Harbor Motor Co., Maine Central Transportation Co. and H. D. Carter Lumber Co., and was treasurer of E. L. Shea, Inc., retiring in 1996. He belonged to Ellsworth Jaycees, Lygonia Lodge No. 40, Acadia Chapter, Blanquefort Commandary, Anah Shrine, Hancock County Shrine Club, Ellsworth Masonic Club, and Bangor Council No. 5. He was very active in the community, county and state wide on various boards and committees, including Ellsworth Planning Board and Ellsworth City Council, Ellsworth Alumni Association; chairman of Hancock County Republican Committee; state committee person representing Hancock County Republican Committee; president of Penobscot Chapter of AARP and Downeast Triad; commissioner of Ellsworth Housing Authority and Ellsworth Historical Society; and member of Black House, YMCA and Heritage Policy Center. Phil is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Grace of Ellsworth; son, Patrick H. Shea and wife, Robin, of Clinton; daughters, Gloria Read and husband, David, of Alton, Linda Shea-Alley and husband, Marvin, and Karen Shea Arkin and partner, Mark Albee, both of Ellsworth; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held 12:30-2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where a funeral service will begin 2 p.m. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery.
