SOUTH PORTLAND – Mable A. McLellan, 94, passed away Sept. 17, 2010, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. She was born June 28, 1916, in Sherman Mills, the daughter of Maurice and Margaret Jackman. Mable grew up in Sherman Mills and graduated from Sherman Mills High School. Mable married Alfred R. McLellan and they remained together for more than 50 years until his passing in 1987. She and her husband came to South Portland in 1943. Mable worked for Mercy Hospital as a licensed practical nurse for 27 years, until her retirement in 1978. After retirement she worked part-time at South Portland Nursing Home and later volunteered there for “Tea and Chat.” She also volunteered at Clothes Closet, State Street Church, Portland. Mable was a member of Thornton Heights United Methodist Church. Mabel was an avid Red Sox fan who attended many opening days at Fenway Park with her son. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred R. McLellan; and a brother, Kirk Jackman. Surviving are two sons, Russell and wife, Donna, of Westbrook, and Paul and wife, Nancy, of South Portland; two daughters, Linda and husband, George Lougee, of Newport and Norma and husband, Richard O’Brien, of South Portland; two brothers, Robert Jackman of Windham and Edward Jackman of South Portland; a sister, Barbara Perrow of South Portland; nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. The family thanks the staff at South Portland Nursing Home and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for all their loving care. Visiting hours will be held 4-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, 100 Westbrook St., South Portland. Interment will be afterward at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St., Portland.
