FORT FAIRFIELD – Elaine M. Grant, 67, wife of Norman H. Grant, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, Nov. 6, 2010, surrounded be her loving family, after an eight-year battle with multiple myeloma. She was born April 5, 1943, in Calais, the daughter of Joseph M. and Roberta (Grant) Holland. She received her education in Houlton and Fort Fairfield, was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1961, and attended Burdette College, Boston. She married Norman H. Grant, June 23, 1962, and after raising her family to school age, worked in the family potato business for 12 years. She later worked as a secretary to the principal for School Administration District 20, Fort Fairfield, for 12 years. Elaine was loved by everyone she met. She was very involved in civic and community activities, including Beta Sigma Phi sorority and C.A.N.C.E.R. She was a Cub Scout leader, president of Beta Sigma Phi Council Board, a member of Fort Fairfield Beautification Committee and a communicant of Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. Elaine loved to golf and shop with her friends. She was predeceased by her father, Joseph M. Holland, Aug. 12, 1999. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Norman H. Grant of Fort Fairfield; her mother, Roberta G. Holland of Presque Isle; one son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Kara Grant of Sidney; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Mark Verrill of Carmel and Lynne and Ricky Searles of Greenland, N.H.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Richard Campbell of Bar Mills and Janet and Jerry Behnke of North Yarmouth; six grandchildren, Ashley Clerk of Carmel, Kevin Clark of Fort Fairfield, Kristi Searles of Boston, Maranda Searles of Greenland, N.H., Mitchell and Parker Grant, both of Sidney; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a vigil service will be conducted 7:30 p.m. by the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield, with the Rev. Aaron Damboise, celebrant. Interment will take place after the Mass at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshment will be held immediately after the interment service at Knights of Columbus Hall, Council No. 1757, 260 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
