HAMPDEN – Shirley Thayer, 78, passed away peacefully Feb. 10, 2011, at a Brewer health care facility. Shirley was born April 27, 1932, in Hampden, daughter of the late Monford and Christine (Arbuckle) Thayer.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Hampden. She was a graduate of Hampden Academy, where she was a member of the basketball team. For a short time, Shirley worked at Freese’s department store before working as a personal care attendant, a job that she loved very much. Shirley had a special love for animals and was a frequent contributor to the ASPCA and Bangor Humane Society. Shirley will be remembered as a loving sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
Shirley is survived by her sister, Dolores Toothaker; nephew, Kevin Toothaker and fiancee, Janice Fuller; an aunt, Marjorie Wadligh; a cousin, Mary Louis Wadligh; special friends, Dick and Merle Jenkins; as well as several special nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
Family and friends may visit noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. Interment will be in the spring at Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden.
