FRANKLIN – Joseph E. Havey, 73, died Feb. 13, 2011, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Feb. 19, 1937, in North Sullivan, the son of Charles B. and Hilda (Petrie) Havey.

He graduated from Jefferson Union High School, Daly City, Calif., in 1956. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1962. He had a variety of jobs, which included working at Hancock Tannery, and as a clam digger and woodsman. He was for many years a marine weed harvester and also for five years worked for Penobscot Salmon Co. Joseph was a licensed plumbing inspector and CEO, serving four towns for 24-plus years. He was a town selectman in Franklin for 14 years. Joseph was a proud member of American Legion Post No. 8, Cherryfield, Disabled American Veterans Chapter ME-6, Am Vets Post No. 9, Orono, and a life member of Franklin Veterans Club.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda (Robinson) Havey; a daughter, Kimberly Havey; two brothers, Richard C. Havey and wife, Faye, all of Franklin, and Douglas Havey of Olympia, Wash.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Michael Rockwell in 1990; and a brother, Charles M. Havey.

Friends are invited to call noon-2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Spring interment will be at Bayview Cemetery, Franklin.
