CORINTH – Stanley William Hathaway, 85, who was born June 30, 1925, died peacefully March 20, 2011, surrounded by loving family members at Maine Veterans Home. Another sailor has gone home … now joyfully enjoying the splendors of heaven. Stanley loved his Lord, Jesus, and was a devoted Christian and family man.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eileen H. (Withee) Hathaway of Corinth; two sons, Steven and his wife, Shirley, of Bangor and William and his wife, Donna, of Corinth; three daughters, Sharon and her husband, Scott, of Columbia, S.C., Linda and her husband, the Rev. Rick Libby, of Corinth and Sandra and her husband, Steven, of Oliver Spring, Tenn.; one sister, Juanita Wheaten of Caribou; 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; a special cousin, George Spooner; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Emmons and Laura Hathaway; four sisters, Mildred Holmes, Avis Miller, Doris Clark and Theora LeDuc; one grandson and one great-grandson.
Stanley served in World War II from September 1943 to May 1946, and the Korean War from September 1950 to August 1952. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 115, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was an honorary member of Boys Town, NE. He enjoyed many churches during his years of living in Maine and Florida. He faithfully prayed daily for his family and read his Bible by the hour.
