MILLINOCKET – George L. Hall, 96, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011.

He was born March 5, 1915, in St. Georges, Quebec, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (McMahon) Mulhall.

George moved to Maine as an infant and grew up in the Moose River – Jackman area, where he attended school. He started working for Great Northern Paper Co. in 1934 as a timekeeper in the lumber camp. He worked for the paper company for 43 years. At the time of his retirement he was a clerical supervisor for the woodlands department. His employment with Great Northern was interrupted from 1942 to 1945 by military service. George served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy, serving in the European Theatre of Operation and was awarded the Purple Heart. George married Susan Rush in 1948 and moved to Millinocket, where they raised their family. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 80, Millinocket Lodge of Elks, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. George was also an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

He is survived by three daughters, Roxana Trimmer of Gardiner, Constance Smart and her husband, Michael, of Millinocket and Kathryn Cyr and her husband, David, of Brewer; eight grandchildren, Chris Trimmer of South Portland, Greg Trimmer and Jon Trimmer of Standish, Jeff Trimmer and Jessica Trimmer of Gardiner, Susan Morneault of Millinocket, Julie Oliver of Waterville and Paul Cyr of Scarborough; 14 precious great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. George was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Susan (Rush) Hall; 12 brothers and sisters, two grandchildren; and a special son-in-law, Chester Trimmer.
