OLD TOWN – Marion E. Fickett, RN, 85, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 23, 2011, in Bangor. Born Oct. 1, 1925, in Mahanoy City, Pa., to Mr. and Mrs. Jay George and Margaret Pearson, Marion grew up in Philadelphia, and later studied nursing at Abbington Hospital, Abbington, Pa., and the University of Pennsylvania.
She married Maj. Ivan W. Fickett, in 1952, and they raised their daughter, born in 1953, Elizabeth A. Davis, on Long Island, N.Y. She and Ivan moved to East Machias in the early 1970s, where Ivan predeceased her in 1979. Marion was proud to be a nurse and served as the 3-11 supervisor at Marshall Health Care, East Machias, for 18 years. Prior, she practiced nursing at Hospital for Special Surgery and Daleview Nursing Home in New York. She is remembered as being someone whom everyone liked and who liked everyone. After retirement, she stayed in close touch with coworkers from Marshall Health Care as well as many childhood friends from the Pennsylvania area.
Marion was proudest of all of her three grandsons who survive her, James P. Fletcher, Frederick E. Greenhalgh and Alexander G. Greenhalgh. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Johnny Kish and Evelyn Domsalla. She was predeceased by daughter, Elizabeth, in 2009. Throughout her life Marion was unceasingly supportive of her family and beloved by all. She will be missed.
Visiting hours are 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, Machias, where a funeral service will begin 1 p.m. Interment will be at Jacksonville Cemetery, East Machias.
