PROSPECT – Lurline Emelyn Taylor Webb passed away peacefully Sept. 12, 2011, surrounded by her loving family at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Deer Isle, daughter of Waldo and Sadie (Stinson) Taylor.

Lurline was educated in Deer Isle schools where she graduated as class valedictorian. After graduation Lurline attended Husson College, majoring in secretarial sciences.

She worked as a secretary at The Merrill Trust Co. and has fond memories of an active social life with friends and co-workers in Bangor. Later years saw her continuing in her secretarial work at chemical companies in Sandy Point and Searsport. Lurline greatly enjoyed her role as a housewife and mother to her four children, as well as working on the family farm. She took great pride in working alongside her husband, Ray, in the growing of vegetables, fruits and tending to farm animals on the Prospect family farm. Nothing made her happier than to cook and serve a meal of her homegrown foods to friends and family. When her children were of high school age, Lurline returned to work at G. H. Jewett Elementary School as a resource room educational technician, a position that she greatly enjoyed for 20 years. Children thrived under her instruction and specialized attention. Lurline’s life was full of many pleasures, including knitting, quilting, fiddle heading, berrying, bird watching and attending all of her children’s and grandchildren’s many varied activities. She also loved animals of all kinds, especially her pets. Her spiritual life was important to her, beginning with her childhood Christian upbringing to her 12 years as a Sunday school teacher at Stockton Springs Community Church where she was the pianist for many years and her active participation at Searsport Congregational Church. In Searsport, she enjoyed the Women’s Fellowship and Round-Abouts activities.

Like her mother and grandmother before her, Lurline was also an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution. Lurline enjoyed a good party, dancing, participation in the Prospect Memorial Day parades, and time at her “Hide-A-Way” cottage in Deer Isle and her camp on Rocky Pond in Orland. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her children, Brenda and Steve Cooper of San Antonio, Fla., and their children, Melanee Cooper, Paul and Katherine Jones; Audrey and Joel Swanton of Holden, and their children, Winfield and his wife, Erica, and Samuel; Harold and Charlene Webb of Bucksport; and Lucy and David Hardy of Wells and their children, William and Kara. She is also survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alan and Myrna Webb; and sister-in-laws, Hattie Webb of Stonington and Marie Webb of Clinton; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ray; and her equally as loved brother, Gilbert.

Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. A celebration of Lurline’s life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Searsport Congregational Church, Church Street, with an hour of fellowship immediately after at Curtis Hall. A service of interment after the fellowship hour will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make a donation to help restore the stained glass windows at Searsport Congregational Church, P.O. Box 261, Searsport, ME 04974 or any charity of their choice.
