CHESTER – Madeline Bina Jordan, 95, wife of the late Raymond Jordan Sr., passed away Feb. 17, 2012, at Colonial Healthcare, Lincoln. She was born Nov. 15, 1916, in Chester, the daughter of Pearl and Nellie Libby.
She enjoyed being with her family and having tea, and was well known for her molasses cookies and “sugar cake” with fudge frosting. Madeline carried the mail, for more than 50 years, alongside her husband, who in many years past had to deliver mail with a horse and wagon when the roads would get too muddy to travel in the spring of the year. They crossed the river on uncertain ice to reach the post office when the ferry on the Penobscot River would freeze in the ice. For many years, Mrs. Jordan drove the school bus in Chester. She ran Redwood Take-out with her daughters for several years. She also enjoyed playing games with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 61 years, Raymond, she was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Hamlin; and six brothers, Olney, Alton, Lloyd, John, Kenneth and Galen Libby. She is survived by five children, Pauline Whitney and Harlan of Chester, Leta King and Ken of Bangor, Raymond Jordan Jr., Dale and Norma Jordan, and Jeffrey and Joleen Jordan, all of Lincoln; four sisters-in-law, Ramona Smith, Florence Jordan, Doris Libby and Mabel Jordan, all of Chester; 20 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Kevin Hatch officiating. Spring interment will be at South Chester Cemetery. Those who wish may donate in her memory to American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
