WESTBROOK and GUILFORD – Walter Marshall Maheux, 68, passed away March 24, 2012, with his loving family at his side at his home in Westbrook. He was born Jan. 6, 1944, in Harmony, son of William Earle Maheux and Alice Lawler.
He married Dottie Melia, June 11, 1966. They were married for 45 years. A Vietnam War era veteran, Walter was proud of his service to his country and a true patriot. After his time in the military, Walter worked as a sawyer, millwright and mill manager. He worked 20 years for Moosehead Manufacturing, Monson, and then went on to work for Allen Rogers, Ltd., Lewis, N.Y. He spent two years in Russia as a consultant and he retired as sawmill manager of Hillside Lumber, Westbrook, in 2007. A leader and mentor, Walter was a Boy Scout leader and town selectman in Monson. A loving husband and father, what Walter enjoyed most was spending time with his extended family. Every Fourth of July he and Dottie would hold a cook out on First Davis Pond in North Guilford. “Family, that’s what it’s all about,” he said. Since retirement Walter worked on building a second home on land in North Guilford called Camp Cull, using as much wood and materials he could cull from scrap.
Walter is survived by his wife, Dottie; children, Lanna Lee Maheux-Quinn and William George Maheux; son-in-law, Edmund Charles Davis-Quinn; siblings, Rose, Nancy, Elizabeth, Joseph, Millie, Sara and Herbert; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and son, Marshall Walter Maheux.
