BANGOR, Maine — Two men screaming profanities and using hand gestures during a verbal fight at Barnaby’s on Odlin Road as the bar closed early Saturday were warned by police to calm down or be arrested.

Mark Elkins, 28, of Bangor did not heed the warning, issued about 1:15 a.m., and was arrested, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said Sunday. As Officer David Farrar “went to arrest him, he resisted and they got into a small wrestling match,” the lieutenant said.

Elkins was grounded by the officer and handcuffed. He was then charged with assault, disorderly conduct and refusing to submit to arrest or detention and was taken to Penobscot County Jail, Hunt said.

The second man involved in the initial verbal disagreement was not charged, he said.

Elkins has convictions for criminal trespass, theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and violating his bail conditions in the last five years, according to prior court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

  1. Never, ever get into a wrestling match with police officers.  It’s always a losing proposition.

    1. The same nit wits who go to a club to party where it’s well known the Gestapo lurks at the entrance as paid goons, that’s who.

      1. So you have issues with police presence in a setting where there is drinking and where brawling or crime could happen?

  2. It’s too bad there can’t be a nightclub in Bangor where people can go and not have to worry about the riff raff causing problems.

    1. riff raff, hahaha….RNin Maine I’m glad you call them as you see them,  next time you might  want to call them low lifes, useless eaters and mindless breeders… or you might have other names you uses to seperate yourself, your class from people of less value.

      1. Um, I frequented that establishment quite a bit in my day, thank you! I’m talking the people who can’t keep out if trouble, go have some drinks, socialize, and have fun. It’s those who want to start trouble by running their mouth and can’t hold their liquor who are the riff raff. What other words would you suggest I use to describe those who tussle with police officers while intoxicated? It’s not my fault Barnaby’s has turned into a cesspool, and not sure why you take offense to me calling troublemakers like I see them.
