MAPLETON – Vinal Alonzo Turner, 86, passed away Friday morning, Oct. 18, 2013, at a Presque Isle health care facility. He was born June 3, 1927, in Mapleton, the son of David and Beulah (Johnson) Turner.
Vinal attended Mapleton Schools and then went on to college at the University of Maine at Orono. He married Dorothy (Rice) Turner on June 25, 1948, and then farmed in Castle Hill from 1948-1976. After farming he worked for the Ashland water district from 1976 to 1989. Vinal served on the town board in Castle Hill and on the school board for SAD No. 1 for many years.
Vinal is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Mapleton; sons and their spouses, Terry and Jamie Turner, Charles and Terri Turner, and Dennis Turner; a daughter, Diane Hurless; grandkids and their spouses, Chris and Amy Turner, Ryan Turner, Jeff and Amber Turner, Jason and Debi Turner, Angela and Peter Lindeback, and Chad and Tiffany Turner; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Philip Turner, and Sidney Turner; a sister, Hope Noe; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Osmond and Richard Turner.
There will be a graveside service held 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at South Side Cemetery.
