BREWER, Maine — There has been no change in the condition of a longtime local barber who was struck by a vehicle while he walked to work on the morning of Dec. 20, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.

David Grant, 73, of Brewer remains in critical condition.

Grant was hit about 6:30 a.m. while crossing the street near his barbershop, located at 96 North Main St., according to Brewer police. It was the second time in a year that Grant has been struck crossing the street in the same location.

He was struck by a 2005 Chevy Cobalt driven by Maria Mann, 42, of Bucksport, according to Jason Moffitt, deputy chief of the Brewer Police Department.

The results of the investigation and accident reconstruction will be turned over to the Penobscot County district attorney’s office once completed and it will be up to prosecutors to determine if charges are filed, Moffitt said.

“The case is still active and we are awaiting reconstruction results and other information before commenting further,” the deputy chief said Sunday.

“It’s been eight days today that he’s been unconscious,” longtime friend Larry Doughty said Sunday.

Doughty, a former city council member who has been Grant’s customer for 15 years, went to visit him at the hospital and said his friend suffered a head injury and was being treated in the intensive care unit.
