The body of a Standish man who drowned Thursday while paddleboarding on a lake in Poland has been recovered by the Maine Warden Service.
Maine Warden Service divers recovered the body of Todd Bradeen, age 51 of Standish, in Lower Ranger Pond at around 8 a.m. Friday in water approximately 30 feet deep and 200 feet from shore, according to Mark Latti, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Bradeen was out on a paddleboard early afternoon Thursday after departing from the beach at Range Pond State Park when friends and family saw him fall off the paddleboard, the warden service said.
The Standish man did not have his leg attached with the tether rope to the paddleboard, and was not wearing a life jacket. The wind pushed the paddleboard away from him, and after attempting to swim and catch up to it, he eventually went underwater and did not resurface.
Bradeen was initially located on the lake bottom early Friday morning using a sonar-equipped boat and visually confirmed with an underwater drone before Maine Warden Service divers recovered the body, the warden service said.
It is the second drowning by a recreational paddle boater in Androscoggin County in as many days.
On Wednesday evening, Mateo Franco Cifuentes, 29, of Biddeford was paddling near shore at Martin’s Point Park on Sabattus Pond about 7:50 p.m. when his kayak tipped over, spilling him into the water, Latti previously said. Like Bradeen, Cifuentes was not wearing a life jacket.
The Maine Warden Service was assisted in the search and recovery efforts for Bradeen by the Poland Fire and Rescue Departments, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office and Range Pond State Park Rangers.
