Update: The Maine fire marshal’s office ruled that the blaze was arson.
The state fire marshal’s office is investigating a Monday morning fire at the Dennysville Edmunds Congregational Church that damaged the building.
The fire at the 17 King St. building was reported shortly before 8 a.m. It started near the rear of the church, and firefighters were able to limit the damage primarily to the exterior of the building, the fire marshal’s office said.
Dennysville is Washington County, about 15 miles west of Eastport.
No one was at the church at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
The fire marshal’s office is still trying to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
