CARIBOU – Dale H. Whitten, 66, died unexpectedly Jan. 25, 2006, at Bangor, after a tragic fall on the ice. He was born Oct. 7, 1939, in Bridgewater, the son of Joseph Ernest and Elizabeth (Kinney) Whitten. Dale was a graduate of Caribou High School, Class of 1958 and attended the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He served with the U.S. Army from 1958-1962 and was a member of the National Guard. Dale was a United States postal worker for 37 years until his retirement. He was a member of the United States Postal Workers Shop Stewart, an active member of the Henry B. Pratt Post No. 15 American Legion and a member of the Odd Fellows. Dale also volunteered at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou. He married Frances Dee (Archer) Whitten Nov. 15, 1958. Surviving in addition to his mother, Elizabeth of Presque Isle; and his wife, Frances of Caribou; are two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Sirena Whitten of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Jeffrey and Kathy Whitten of Caribou; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Shaun McDuffie and Shannon and David Sleeper, all of Caribou and Frances and Theodore Krush of Portland; six brothers, Thomas Whitten of Ohio, Lawrence Whitten of Caribou, Jim Whitten of South Carolina, Joe Whitten of Crouseville, Lou Whitten of Florida and Jere Whitten of Presque Isle; one sister, Dorothy Sines of Mapleton; eight grandchildren, Ethan, Jared, Meredith, Nolan, Jacob, Nicholas, Matthew and Anna; many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Dale loved his family. He especially enjoyed attending sporting events and dance recitals of his grandchildren. He will be missed by many friends and family who loved him. He was predeceased by his father; a son, John Whitten; and a brother, Roger Whitten. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St. Caribou, with evening military prayer services being held 7 p.m. by the officers and members of the American Legion. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Fr. David Raymond, officiating in a Mass of Christian Burial.
