MACHIAS – Frank Ulric “Diddy” Hall Sr., 84, husband of Jeanette (Schoppee) Hall, died unexpect-edly Aug. 21, 2007, at home. He was born June 15, 1923, in Jonesport, the son of Merton and Marion (Smith) Hall. He graduated from Jones-port High School. “Did” had a lifelong passion for music especially Dixieland and jazz. He started playing trumpet with Ross Kelley’s Orchestra at age 13. He was a member of the Old Timer’s Dance Band and the Orange River Dance Band and a former member of the Machias Community Band. For many years he had his own dance band known as Diddy’s Boys. He served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a member of an armed guard on merchant ships and was a signalman. He retired in 1986 from the U.S. Naval Computer and Communication Station, Cutler, where he was transportation supervisor for 30 years. In 2004, Frank was presented with the Robert M. Guptill Award for his outstanding contribution to the Arts and Humanities of Washington County. In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by one son, Frank U. “Pete” Hall Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Jonesport; one daughter, Lorraine Hall Ricigliano of Hermon; four grandchildren, Jennifer Ricigliano Lee and her husband, Philip, of Glenburn, Ian John Ricigliano and his wife, Rae, of Hermon, Elizabeth Hall Viani and her husband, Michael, of Charleston, and Aaron Peter Hall and his fianc?e, Amy Pettegrow, of Salem, N.H.; five great-grandchildren, Jacynda, Gabriella and Johnathon Lee of Glenburn and Jayden and Julia Viani of Charleston; one brother, Lee Hall and his wife, Barbara, of Jonesport; a sister-in-law, Bessie Schoppee of Jonesboro; a special cousin, Oscar Hall and his wife, Helen, of Columbia; several other cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a son-in-law, John Ricigliano. Frank “Did” enjoyed sharing his music with his many friends and woodworking and also his summers and vacations at his camp at Fulton Lake. In keeping with Did’s request there will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at Centre Street Congregational Church, Machias, with the Rev. Gini King and Pastor George Woodward co-officiating. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Jones-port. Memorials in his memory may be sent to Greenwood Cemetery Society, P.O.
