BLUE HILL – Paul Erland Blomquist, 92, died Dec. 2, 2004, at his residence in Blue Hill. He was born Jan. 8, 1912, in Bloomfield, N.J., the son of Oscar G. and Nannie (Johansson) Blomquist. Educated in Brooklyn, N.Y., he graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1929 and the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with a degree in civil engineering. His career in Federal Municipal Services began in 1929, ending in 1974 when he retired as director of the Bureau of Claims of the New York City Board of Water Supply in Deposit, New York. He was a licensed professional engineer and land surveyor in New York State. During the period of 1952-1963 he was a member of the Manhattan College summer surveying camp instructional staff. Paul was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping. A veteran of World War II, he served in engineer units in the U.S. and Philippines from 1943-1946. Paul is survived by two daughters, Erla Amidon and husband, Tom, Landra Perry and husband, Harold; their respective sons and daughter; and two great-grandsons; his good friend and companion, Paula E. Peer of Blue Hill. He was predeceased by his wife Chrystal in 1981. Chrystal and Paula brought to Paul both a full and fuller life. There will be a gathering to remember Paul, 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at Parker Ridge, Blue Hill. His remains will be interred in Pine Grove Cemetery in Deposit, N.Y. at a future date.
