PLYMOUTH – Glenn Richardson, 82, passed away Dec. 27, 2008, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born April 2, 1926, in Plymouth, a son of Stanley and Lillace (White) Richardson. Glenn graduated from Newport High School, Class of 1943, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy 17 days later during World War II, completing his military career in 1946. He married the former Elinor Virgie, Nov. 28, 1948. Glenn started substitute teaching in 1964 at Dixmont. He received a Bachelor of Music from Northern Conservatory of Music, Bangor, in 1966. He taught and served as principal of the Plymouth school until June 1968, when the school closed and SAD 48 was established. In fall 1968 he taught music in Newport, Hartland and St. Albans schools, as well as Newport and Corinna junior high schools. Glenn will be remembered as the piano player with Johnny Jewett and the Nighthawks, playing throughout the area on Saturday nights. He served as selectman for the town of Plymouth from 1955 to 1972. His wife, Elinor, passed away in 1975. Glenn continued teaching music in SAD 48 until 1991, but continued teaching piano from his home until 2005. He enjoyed gardening and working around his home and was a former member of Meridian Splendor Lodge No. 49 AF & AM of Newport. He is survived by two sons, Gary and wife, Deborah, of Dexter and Thomas of Plymouth; a daughter, Beth and husband, Gary Smith, of Winthrop; a brother, Wade and wife, Gerri Richardson, of Plymouth; and a sister, Colleen Coates of Kezar Falls; five grandchildren, Karen Smith, Diane Morse, Nathan, Ashley and Matthew Richardson; two great-grandchildren, Gunner Richardson and Claire Morse; several nieces and nephews. The family especially thanks the staff at the Maine Veterans’ Home for their fine and compassionate care. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Crosby & Neal, 117 Main St., Newport, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, with Pastor Al H. Worden officiating.
