ROBBINSTON – Christopher J. Mulcahy passed away March 8, 2010, while on vacation in Florida. He was born Feb. 27, 1956, the son of Shelia Dillon and Christopher J. Mulcahy Sr. C.J, as his family and friends called him, accomplished many things in his life despite having been ill when he was younger. He overcame Hodgkin’s disease when he was 14 years old and then again when he was 18 years old. He attended Cardinal Hayes High School in New York and after graduation started his career working as a helper with the Coca-Cola Co. When he had the opportunity to start his own business within the Coca-Cola Co., CJ managed within the first year to double his sales and was rewarded with a trip to Puerto Rico for having been the distributor with the highest sales of the year. After a few years he sold his business and moved to Maine, a place where he had come with his family for vacations and hunting season. He loved Maine so much he decided to settle here and build a home of his own, something he was most proud of as he built it himself. Eventually he decided to attend the University of Maine, first in Machias and then in Orono, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. It was also at this time that CJ learned to speak Spanish fluently. After graduation he worked for CancerCare of Maine, a part of Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he used his nursing skills and his life experience to help others who were going through chemotherapy – something he had experience with. He loved helping others and was quite proud of his accomplishments. In 2001 CJ suffered a stroke and was unable to work any longer. Despite this CJ continued to pursue his interests. In spite of his disability, he taught himself to paint with his opposite hand and created beautiful paintings, which he loved to give away to others. CJ was predeceased by his brother, Brian Mulcahy; and his sister, Kathie White. He is survived by his mother, Shelia Dillon of New York; his brother, Kevin Mulcahy of Bronx, N.Y.; and his father and stepmother, Christopher J. and Frances Mulcahy Sr. of Charlotte. Despite being divorced, CJ remained close friends with his ex-wife and her husband, Deborah and Stanley Morrell of Robbinston; and his girls, Robin Lindquist of Alexander, Natasha Johnson of Robbinston and Christie Look of Rumford. CJ will also be missed by his little friend, Christine Fowler whose company CJ enjoyed. At CJ’s request, there will be no services and cremation will take place in Florida. CJ’s wish was that his ashes be spread over his property in Robbinston. A spreading of his ashes will take place at a future date. In lieu of flowers or cards, please make donations in CJ’s honor to CancerCare of Maine, Bangor.
