A Guatemalan man was arrested in Bangor on a charge of entering the U.S. illegally. Baltazar Alonzo-Perez was arrested during a 10-day statewide sweep by Border Patrol, during which 39 people were taken into custody.

Madawaska rejected a $25 million tax abatement request from its largest employer. Twin Rivers Paper Co. balked at a massive bump in the valuation of its mill, but the town says it corrected an earlier assessing mistake.

Penobscot Theatre’s latest play is a funny, insightful look at the fall of the Soviet Union. The Bangor company is just the second to produce “Mother Russia,” which premiered earlier this year at Seattle Repertory Theatre.

Ruth White broke her own University of New Hampshire record in the 10,000 meters. It didn’t take long for the Orono runner to surpass her own school record and set another one for the conference championship event over the weekend.

Two Maine paddling legends tackled the Meduxnekeag Canoe Race. J.D. Burke and Brady Burke were first canoe team across the finish line, a successful run after a several-year hiatus for them.
